The Sub-Committee on Safeguarding & Enforcement of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed the implementation status of pollution-control measures across Delhi-NCR and Punjab during its 25th meeting held on June 12, 2026. The review covered key sectors including vehicular emissions, road dust, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, stubble burning, municipal solid waste management, industrial emissions, and air quality monitoring.
The following has been stated:
The installation of ANPR cameras at fuel stations to enforce valid PUCC requirements from October 01, 2026, accelerated the adoption of cleaner vehicles by aggregators and e-commerce companies, action against end-of-life vehicles, traffic decongestion measures, and the complete phase-out of diesel auto-rickshaws in NCR by December 31, 2026. The Commission also reviewed dust-control measures, expansion of C&D waste processing facilities, mechanized road sweeping, preparedness to eliminate paddy stubble burning, promotion of biomass utilization, and mandatory use of paddy straw-based pellets in brick kilns.
Additionally, CAQM assessed progress in legacy waste disposal, prevention of landfill fires, installation of new air quality monitoring stations, enforcement of stricter industrial emission standards, surprise inspections of polluting activities, integration of monitoring systems with the Commission’s Integrated Command & Control Centre (I3C), and implementation of awareness campaigns. NCR States, the Government of NCT of Delhi, and Punjab reaffirmed their commitment to the strict, targeted, and time-bound implementation of CAQM directions to improve air quality across the region.
