The Government of Tamil Nadu on June 19, 2026, issued draft amendments to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated:-
•The draft amendment revises the fee structure for allotment of advance registration numbers across various vehicle categories.
•Fees for numbers allotted directly by the Government range from ₹80,000 to ₹8,00,000 depending on the registration series.
•For two-wheelers and three-wheelers, fees range from ₹2,000 to ₹1,00,000 based on vehicle value. Imported cars and other imported vehicles will attract fees ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹1,50,000 according to their value.
•The amendment seeks to rationalize and update charges for obtaining preferred or advance registration numbers.
Objection or suggestion, if any, may be submitted within 14 days.
