The following has been stated: -
•The bill aims to amend the original 2007 Act to simplify the norms for establishing private universities and attract private investment in higher education.
•It removes rigid minimum land, built-up area, and endowment fund requirements, replacing them with compliance standard guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and relevant regulatory bodies.
•Additionally, it introduces a mandatory annual fee payable by private universities to the Regulatory Commission starting April 01, 2027.
•Finally, the amendment empowers the Regulatory Commission to take necessary steps or transfer students to another university to safeguard student interests if a sponsoring body fails to fulfill its obligations.
