The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on July 27, 2026, notified the establishment of several new and revised Indian Standards under Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The standards were established on July 24, 2026, and, where applicable, the corresponding earlier standards will remain in force concurrently until January 24, 2027, after which they will be withdrawn.
The notification introduces standards covering household and similar electrical appliances, including food waste disposers, clocks, commercial electric cooking ranges, ovens, hobs, food warming appliances, and surface-cleaning appliances using liquids or steam. It also revises standards relating to port-based network access control (IS/ISO/IEC/IEEE 8802-1X:2021), metadata registries (IS/ISO/IEC 11179-6:2023), and adopts the second revision of the C++ programming language standard (IS/ISO/IEC 14882:2024).
The revised standards align Indian specifications with the latest IEC, ISO, and IEEE international standards to strengthen product safety, interoperability, and technological harmonization. Manufacturers, testing laboratories, certification bodies, and other stakeholders should adopt the newly established standards, while transitioning from the superseded versions before their withdrawal on January 24, 2027.
