The Government of Uttar Pradesh on July 15, 2026, issued the Draft Uttar Pradesh Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The Uttar Pradesh Government has proposed draft rules under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 for regulating Government Approved Test Centres.
•Government Approved Test Centres may verify specified weights and measures, subject to prescribed standards, infrastructure and qualified manpower requirements.
•Applications for approval are to be submitted to the Controller, Legal Metrology, with approval by the State Government.
•The rules provide for suspension/revocation of approval, including an opportunity to show cause, and prescribe an application fee of ₹20,000 per piece of equipment per year.
