The Government of Karnataka on August 10, 2026, issued a circular regarding a ban on Plaster of Paris (PoP) and chemically dyed Ganesha Idols.
The following has been stated: -
•This circular issued by the Directorate of Municipal Administration orders a complete statewide ban on the manufacturing, storage, sale, and public display of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and chemically painted Ganesha idols
•To prevent water pollution and safeguard aquatic ecosystems, citizens and committees are mandated to exclusively use eco-friendly idols made from natural clay and non-toxic colors.
•Strict prohibitions are enforced against immersing PoP idols into lakes, rivers, reservoirs, or any local water bodies under any circumstances.
•District Commissioners, local urban bodies, police, and KSPCB regional officers will jointly monitor compliance, seize unauthorized idols, and take necessary legal action against violators.
•Additionally, local bodies, schools, colleges, and NGOs are directed to actively raise public awareness about celebrating an eco-friendly festival.
