The Municipal Council Dehra on August 14, 2026, has proposed amendments to the Dehra Municipal Council (Registration and Control of Pet Dogs) Bye-Laws, 2025, with retrospective effect from the date of their initial publication. The public may submit objections or suggestions to the Executive Officer, Municipal Council Dehra, within 15 days from publication in the Himachal Pradesh e-Gazette.
The amendment reduces the annual licence fee for registered pet dogs from ₹600 to ₹100. The earlier requirement of a “metal token” is replaced with a Laminated Licence Registration Card. Registration remains compulsory for dogs above three months of age, with ₹100 registration fee and ₹100 annual licence fee. Registration is valid for the entire lifetime of the dog, subject to informing the authority upon the dog's death.
Owners must submit the prescribed registration form, two recent photographs and a valid vaccination certificate. Blind persons keeping a dog solely for guidance are exempt from the registration fee. A duplicate laminated licence card can be obtained on payment of ₹500. A household may keep a maximum of two dogs within the Municipal Council Dehra jurisdiction.
