The Government of Maharashtra on July 23, 2025, issued the Maharashtra Rent Control (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to amend the Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999.
The following has been stated: -
•The amendments clarify that "structural alterations" include provisions like the kitchen, staircase, and electricity.
•Landlords must ensure habitable conditions with essential supplies like a kitchen and stairs. Section 29 is updated to include refusal or withholding of kitchen facilities as a violation.
•Definitions in subsection (6) are expanded to include kitchen among essential services explicitly.
