The Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J), on November 10, 2025, issued the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Regulation, 2025, to further amend the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Co-operative Societies Regulation, 1973.
The following amendments have been stated:
• For Section 6, which states, “Restriction on holding of shares”, the following section shall be substituted, namely:- "6. No member of a co-operative society, other than the Government, shall hold more than one-fifth of the total subscribed share capital of such society."
• In section 41, which states, “Funds not to be divided by way of profit”, for the third proviso, the following proviso shall be substituted, namely:- "Provided also that the rate of dividend, to be declared by the society, shall be decided in the General Body meeting, subject to allocation of reserve fund under this section and the Co-operative Education Fund under section 43.".
