The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on November 3, 2025, announced the establishment of new Indian Standards across multiple technical domains. These include updates to standards concerning power control systems, biometrics in video surveillance, and rotating electrical machines, reflecting BIS’s continued efforts to align Indian standards with international best practices and evolving technological requirements.
The notification specifies that the newly established Indian Standards—including IS 16335:2025 (Power Control Systems — Security Requirements, First Revision), IS 19380 (Part 1):2025 and (Part 4):2025 (Use of Biometrics in Video Surveillance Systems), and several IEC-aligned standards for Rotating Electrical Machines—were formally established on October 30, 2025. The earlier version IS 16335:2015 will remain in force concurrently until its withdrawal on April 30, 2026, ensuring a smooth transition for industries and laboratories adapting to the revised standard.
Through these updates, BIS aims to enhance security benchmarks, interoperability, and technical precision in industrial and surveillance technologies. The revisions also underscore India’s commitment to harmonizing domestic standards with ISO/IEC norms to support innovation, safety, and quality in emerging technologies.
