The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on November 6, 2025, announced the establishment of amendments to several Indian Standards across key industrial and consumer sectors. These amendments aim to update specifications, improve safety and performance criteria, and ensure alignment with emerging technologies and market requirements.
The notification lists amendments to standards including IS 5244:2020 (Safe Deposit Locker Cabinets – Fourth Revision, Amendment No. 3), IS 11188 (Part 1):2021 (Vault/Strong Room Doors – Third Revision, Amendment No. 1), IS 11329:2018 (Finned Type Heat Exchanger for Room Air Conditioner – First Revision, Amendment No. 5), and IS 17021:2018 (E20 Fuel Specification for Spark Ignited Engine Vehicles). All amendments were formally established on October 15, 2025, and the previous versions of the respective standards will remain valid concurrently until April 14, 2026, to allow for a smooth transition by stakeholders.
Through these revisions, BIS seeks to strengthen standardization in areas such as safety infrastructure, fuel technology, and HVAC efficiency, ensuring enhanced quality and reliability across products and industrial practices in India.
