The Government of Tamil Nadu on November 11, 2025, declaring the official list of Public Holidays for the state in the year 2026. This notification covers holidays for all State Government Offices and all Commercial Banks, including Co-operative Banks, under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The order specifies that the list of Public Holidays, as appended in the notification, will be formally published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette. These holidays will apply to all State Government Undertakings, Corporations, and Boards. The order was passed after referencing a previous government order from November 2024 and a letter from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) dated June 27, 2025.
In addition to the public holidays declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, the government also directed that all its offices shall be closed on all Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year 2026, along with the specified public holidays. The only exception mentioned is the Annual Closing of Bank Accounts on April 1, 2026, which is a public holiday but does not result in the closure of government offices.
