The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, vide Order S.O. 5136(E) dated November 12, 2025, has exercised its powers under Section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016) to rescind an earlier notification concerning the quality standards of Polyethylene Material for Moulding and Extrusion. The decision has been taken in public interest following consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The rescinded notification—S.O. 1647(E), dated April 5, 2022, and published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii) on April 6, 2022—had earlier specified BIS standards applicable to polyethylene materials used for moulding and extrusion purposes.
This rescission takes immediate effect, ensuring that the previous order ceases to have force from the date of publication, except in respect of actions already undertaken or omissions made before such rescission.
