The Labour Department, Govt. of Chhattisgarh on November 11, 2025, issued draft amendments to the Chhattisgarh Factories Rules, 1962.
The following has been stated namely: -
• In sub-rule (1) of rule 2, after clause (k), a new clause shall be inserted - "(k-1) "Lactating mother" means a woman up to six months after giving birth."
• In sub-rule (1) of rule 2, after clause (m), a new clause shall be inserted - "(m-1) Pregnant woman".
• It states that provisions related to “the Prohibition relating to employment of women and young persons” shall be substituted. It states that the rule prohibits the employment of pregnant women, lactating mothers, and young persons in electroplating, electrolytic, and metal-oxidation processes involving hazardous chemicals such as chromium, nickel, cadmium, zinc, copper, silver, and gold. Other women and eligible workers may be employed only if the factory ensures strict engineering controls, enclosed systems, air monitoring, and the use of specialized PPE, such as impermeable gloves and face shields.
• Any objection or suggestion regarding the said draft may be sent to the Secretary, Department of Labour, Government of Chhattisgarh, Mahanadi Bhawan, Mantralaya, Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar, Raipur, by December 26, 2025.
