The Government of Puducherry on October 06, 2025, issued Rules and Regulations/Guidelines afresh for the award of Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance to students admitted to Unaided Private.
The following objective have been stated:
The Government of Puducherry aims to ensure that no deserving student is deprived of higher education due to financial constraints. Under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme, financial assistance is provided to eligible students admitted through CENTAC in unaided private professional institutions, covering courses such as Medical, Engineering, Para-Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Agriculture, Law, etc.
Additionally, full tuition fees are reimbursed for students admitted under the 10% Government School Students Quota in NEET-based UG courses (MBBS, BDS, BAMS) in Government and Private Self-Financing Medical Colleges in Puducherry.
• Allocation of Financial Assistance
o All eligible students admitted through CENTAC to unaided private professional institutions in Puducherry are covered.
o Full tuition fee reimbursement is provided to students under the 10% Government School Students Quota in NEET-based UG medical courses.
o Only Indian citizens who are residents of Puducherry (as per applicable admission residency rules) are eligible.
o Financial assistance for SC/ST students is provided separately by the Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department.
Coverage and Eligibility
• Eligible students:
o Must be admitted through CENTAC.
o Must be residents of Puducherry and Indian citizens.
o Must have passed the qualifying exam in the first attempt.
o Includes NEET-Quota Government School students for MBBS/BDS/BAMS.
• Course year eligibility:
o First-year students of all eligible professional courses qualify.
o Lateral Entry Engineering students qualify from the second year onward.
o Employment restrictions:
o Full-time employed candidates are not eligible unless they resign or take full-time leave without pay for the entire course.
• Other restrictions:
o Cannot receive other regular scholarships/stipends simultaneously.
o Assistance is not provided during internship periods.
o Part-time, private, unrecognized, or correspondence course students are not eligible.
• Selection Procedure
o The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education will call for applications from eligible students.
o Institutions must upload student details and renewal mark sheets through the designated online portal using institutional login credentials.
• Tenability
Assistance is provided:
o For the first year of all eligible professional courses.
o For the second year only in case of Engineering Lateral Entry students.
o If a student shifts from one professional degree to another:
o Assistance will be recalculated based on the new course.
o Previously received assistance will be deducted accordingly.
