The Ministry of Power (MoP) on November 12, 2025, issued notification on Energy Efficiency Standards for Grid-Connected Solar Inverters.
The Central Government in consultation with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency hereby specifies the following energy consumption standards having an output voltage of 230 V ac, 50 Hz for single phase and up to and including 415 V ac 50 Hz for three phases Grid Connected Solar Inverter having rated capacity up to and including 100 kW, being manufactured or imported in India shall,—
• meet the minimum overall efficiency requirement of the inverter based on static maximum power point tracking efficiency measurement and the steady state conversion efficiency prescribed in IS 17980:2022/ IEC 62891:2020;
• display an endorsement label based on the overall efficiency matrix on Grid Connected Solar Inverter.
The key provisions are as stated:
• Testing Methods
Testing for endorsement label eligibility must follow:
IS 17980:2022 / IEC 62891:2020, specifically clauses 4 and 5, for determining overall efficiency at Standard Test Conditions (STC).
• Prequalification Criteria
To participate in the BEE Standards & Labelling Programme, solar inverters must:
Meet the minimum efficiency requirements specified above.
Comply with BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification.
Be tested as per the latest version of IS 17980:2022.
• Test Report Requirements
Manufacturers must submit test reports in the prescribed Annexure format from labs accredited by:
NABL, ILAC, APLAC,
National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), or
Any capable third-party or manufacturer-owned test lab, as updated over time.
