Industry Specific ComplianceThe Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on November 10, 2025, issued the notification regarding the consultation paper on "Review of existing TRAI Regulations on Interconnection matters".

The following has been stated namely: -

• With India’s telecom industry shifting toward IP-based networks, 4G/5G, and new communication technologies, many existing interconnection modalities are outdated, requiring a forward-looking regulatory framework.

• The review focuses on IP-based interconnection, especially important for 4G/5G. It also examines whether current interconnection levels (LSA-level for mobile; district/tehsil for fixed-line) should be revised.

• TRAI is evaluating interconnection for satellite-based telecom networks, including the nature and placement of POIs connecting satellite gateways with fixed-line, mobile, and other satellite networks.

• All interconnection-related charges—origination, termination, transit, carriage, international termination, and the Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) framework—are being reassessed for relevance, fairness, and future readiness.

• The comments/counter-comments may be sent at [email protected].
