The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on November 18, 2025, announced the redemption price for premature redemption of the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) Scheme 2020-21 Series-II, originally issued on May 19, 2020. As per the terms of the GOI notification F.No.4(4)-B(W&M)/2020 dated April 13, 2020, premature redemption is permitted after five years from the date of issue, on interest payment dates. Accordingly, November 19, 2025, marks the next due date for premature redemption for this tranche.
The redemption price is calculated based on the simple average of the closing price of gold of 999 purity for the three business days preceding the redemption date, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA). Using this method, the redemption price for November 19, 2025, has been fixed at ₹12,330 per unit of SGB.
This mechanism ensures transparency and alignment with prevailing market gold prices, providing a fair exit opportunity for investors seeking premature redemption.
