The Government of Karnataka, on November 11, 2025, issued a circular regarding the prosecution of fake doctors and Medical Establishments employing such doctors.
The following has been stated: -
•The Karnataka AYUSH Practitioners Act, 1961, prohibits unregistered persons from practicing any system of medicine, with penalties including heavy fines and imprisonment for repeated offences; a special task force is empowered to act against fake doctors.
•Medical establishments employing unqualified doctors can be prosecuted under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007, for operating without proper registration, facing penalties, imprisonment, and immediate closure.
•Such establishments may also face suspension or cancellation of registration and fines for violating provisions of the Act or Rules.
•Additionally, non-compliance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, attracts penalties under the Environment Protection Act, 1986, including imprisonment and significant fines.
