Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Steel, on November 20, 2025, issued a notification regarding the introduction of ‘SARAL SIMS’ to make Steel Import Registration easier for Small Importers and Export-Linked Imports.

The following has been stated: -

•A new simplified registration system, SARAL SIMS, is introduced for MSMEs, small importers, and export-linked imports (Advance Authorisation/SEZ/EOU), allowing a single yearly SIMS number instead of consignment-wise registrations.

•Small imports ≤10 MT per consignment can use SARAL SIMS up to 1000 MT/year (temporarily 500 MT for FY 2025-26 till April 2026), while export-linked imports have no quantity limit.

•Importers must file an annual return by April 30 and switch to regular SIMS once they cross the yearly limit.

•Regular SIMS is simplified (fields cut from 56 to 20), and NOC/clarification for Non-QCO grades is removed; all changes effective November 21, 2025.
