The Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Govt. of Assam on September 09, 2025, notified regarding the grant of NOC in Inter-Religion Land Transfers in Assam.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It aims to regulate land transfers where the buyer and seller belong to different religions, due to rising cases of fraudulent and coercive transfers affecting communal harmony.
• Applicants shall apply for NOC through the SEWA SETU portal, after which the District Commissioner (DC) obtains verification from the Circle Officer and forwards the case to the Nodal Officer (Inter-Religion Land Sale) for scrutiny.
• The Nodal Officer shall obtain a detailed report from the Special Branch, Assam Police, on coercion, fraud, communal implications, national security concerns, and antecedents of the parties involved.
• Based on these reports, the DC may approve, reject, or seek further details; if unresolved within 30 days, a speaking order with reasons shall be issued.
