The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on November 19, 2025, issued a list of banks authorised to operate capital gains account scheme.
The following has been stated:
It has issued an updated notification authorising additional banks—excluding their rural branches—to accept deposits and maintain accounts under the Scheme, and the following banks are now authorised to operate CGAS accounts, which are as follows: -
• HDFC Bank Ltd
• ICICI Bank Ltd
• Axis Bank Ltd
• City Union Bank Ltd
• DCB Bank Ltd
• Federal Bank Ltd
• IDFC FIRST Bank Ltd
• IndusInd Bank Ltd
• Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd
• Karnataka Bank Ltd
• Karur Vysya Bank Ltd
• Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd
• RBL Bank Ltd
• South Indian Bank Ltd
• Yes Bank Ltd
• Dhanlaxmi Bank Ltd
• Bandhan Bank Ltd
• CSB Bank Ltd
• Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd
For the purpose of this notification, the rural branch in relation to the bank specified herein means a branch located in an area with a population of less than 10,000 as per the 2011 Census.
