The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoS&PI) on November 21, 2025, released the Discussion Paper on “Methodological Improvements in Compilation of National Accounts Aggregates Using Production/Income Approach”.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that the Ministry will adopt FY 2022-23 as the base year for a new series of national accounts, slated for release on 27 February 2026.
• An advisory body, the Advisory Committee on National Account Statistics (ACNAS), chaired by Professor B.N. Goldar, has been constituted to oversee methodological enhancements in the compilation of national accounts, including integrating newer data sources.
• To prepare stakeholders for the changes, MoSPI has issued a discussion paper focusing on production/income-approach-based aggregates (nominal and real terms), inviting comments by December 10, 2025, from users, academia, and government agencies.
• The next discussion paper will cover methodology via the expenditure approach, thereby completing a comprehensive revision of national accounts compilation and presentation for better policy and economic analysis.
