The PIB Headquarters on November 22, 2025, notified regarding the implementation highlights of the Code on Social Security, 2020.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It highlights the rollout of the Code on Social Security, 2020, which merges nine existing labour laws into one comprehensive framework.
• It expands benefits under EPFO and ESIC to a wider workforce, ensuring improved pension, insurance, and medical coverage across industries.
• For the first time, gig and platform workers are formally recognised in legislation, with a dedicated social security fund proposed for their welfare.
• The Code also enhances women-centric provisions such as 26 weeks of maternity leave, mandatory crèche facilities, and flexible work options.
• It introduces digital compliance, single registration, and simplified inspection systems to support ease of doing business.
• Migrant and unorganised workers will benefit from a unified national registration system, ensuring portability of entitlements across states.
• Overall, the Code aims to create a more inclusive, tech-enabled, and welfare-focused social protection ecosystem in line with India’s long-term labour reforms.
