The Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) on November 10, 2025, issued a notification regarding the FAQs on the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
The following has been stated: -
•The Minimum Wages Act, 1948, protects workers from exploitation by ensuring legally mandated minimum wages, fixed and revised periodically by the appropriate government.
•It defines wages, types of minimum rates, working hours, overtime, rest days, and prohibits employers from paying below the notified minimum wages.
•Claims of underpayment can be filed within 6 months before an appointed authority empowered to recover dues with compensation.
•Violations attract fines or imprisonment, and any agreement to accept less than minimum wages is void by law.
The detailed notification is given in the document below.
