Industry Specific ComplianceThe Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on November 21, 2025, issued the Instructions for handling anticipated KYC issues during the implementation of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service in India.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The DoT has formally sanctioned CNAP, a service to display the verified name of the calling party on the recipient’s phone screen by default, using identity data collected at SIM registration.

• CNAP aims to curb fraudulent, spam, and anonymous calls by making caller identity transparent without relying on third-party apps like Truecaller.

• While initially targeted for 4G/5G users, subscribers will have the option to opt out of the service if they wish not to display their name.

• Telecom operators are required to integrate CNAP into their networks, set up a Calling Name (CNAM) database, and coordinate across service providers to ensure seamless display of caller names across networks.
