Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Chhattisgarh on November 18, 2025, issued the Indian Stamp (Chhattisgarh Amendment) Act, 2023, further to amend the Indian Stamp Act, 1899.

This shall come into force from November 18, 2025.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The amendment introduces updated stamp duties on various instruments, including agreements, conveyances, mortgages, leases, power of attorney, and property-related documents, to align with current economic and land valuation conditions.

• It revises definitions and procedural requirements, making stamp collection more streamlined, digital-friendly, and compliant with modern documentation standards, reducing manual intervention and ambiguity.

• Higher penalties and enforcement measures have been added for insufficiently stamped documents, misuse of stamp paper, and evasion, strengthening regulatory compliance across transactions.

• The Act also empowers the State Government to notify revised stamp rates periodically and introduces provisions for adjudication, dispute resolution, and validation through electronic record systems.
