The Government of Assam on November 04, 2025, issued a notification exercising powers under Section 3(2C) of the Assam Taxation (On Specified Lands) Act, 1990. Through this order, the State Government has granted a tax exemption on specified categories of land that ordinarily attract tax under Section 3 of the said Act.
The authority has clarified that Coal-bearing, Crude-oil-bearing, Natural-gas-bearing, and Limestone-bearing lands shall be exempt from payment of tax for the period April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. The exemption aims to provide fiscal relief to stakeholders and support ongoing industrial and mineral-extraction activities within the state during the specified financial year.
Further, the notification explicitly states that the order shall be deemed to have come into force from April 1, 2025, ensuring retrospective applicability for the entire FY 2025-26.
