The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on November 18, 2025, has issued a public notice inviting comments and suggestions on draft “Guidelines for use of the Geographical Indication (GI) Logo.” The notice seeks inputs from the general public, producers, GI holders, industry associations and other stakeholders to help frame practical, clear and enforceable rules for use of the GI logo on products and packaging.
The DPIIT has attached the draft guidelines with the notice and set December 18, 2025 as the deadline for receipt of feedback; respondents should clearly indicate their name, affiliation and specific suggestions or proposed text changes when submitting comments.
The objective of the exercise is to ensure consistent, non-misleading and rights-protective use of the GI logo while enabling producers to benefit from brand recognition. After the comment period, DPIIT will review submissions, finalize the guidelines and publish the final version for implementation.
