The University Grants Commission (UGC) on November 26, 2025, issued a notification regarding the timely conduct of exams and the issuance of degrees by higher education institutions.
The following has been stated:
The UGC has noticed that some Higher Education Institutions are delaying examinations and the issuance of degrees and certificates, causing students to lose academic and employment opportunities. As per UGC Regulations, 2008, degrees must be awarded within 180 days of students becoming eligible, and according to the UGC Students' Entitlement Guidelines, 2012, exams and results must follow the academic calendar, with degrees issued within 180 days of result declaration. The UGC has the authority to take action against institutions that do not comply.
All HEIs are therefore urged to strictly follow these timelines and ensure timely exams and prompt issuance of academic awards.
