Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on November 12, 2025, notified the Central Motor Vehicles (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2025, further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The following has been stated: -

•The amendment introduces definitions for new and existing vehicle models and updates width-measurement rules to exclude certain safety devices.

•It mandates compliance with IS:11852:2019 braking standards, Anti-Lock Braking Systems, and Endurance Braking Tests with phased dates starting January 01, 2027 / October 01, 2027.

•Heavy vehicle categories (M2, M3, N2, N3) must be equipped with Advanced Emergency Braking (AIS-162) and Lane Departure Warning (AIS-188) from late 2027–2028.

•New rule 125Q requires Driver Drowsiness Warning, Blind Spot Info, and Moving-Off Info Systems for specified vehicle categories from October 2027 / January 2028.

They shall come into force on November 12, 2025.
