The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on November 28, 2025, notified regarding the Implementation the Code on Social Security, 2020.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Code on Social Security, 2020 (CoSS) has been brought into force on November 21, 2025 as per the Ministry of Labour & Employment Gazette Notification No. 5143.
• Under Section 2(24)(c), widower and grandparent are now included as dependants, making them eligible for Dependent Benefit.
• Under Section 2(33)(e), father-in-law and mother-in-law of a woman employee are now recognised as part of her family, making them eligible for Medical Benefit.
• ESIC has instructed all concerned to apply these revised definitions while extending Dependent and Medical Benefits to eligible persons.
