The Government of Maharashtra, on November 28, 2025, issued the Order regarding Grant of Paid Holiday/Leave Allowance to Voters for Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat Elections on December 02, 2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• A paid holiday is granted on the day of voting to enable voters to exercise their voting rights, or in some places, suitable relaxation in working hours is provided. However, in recent elections, it has been observed that some institutions/establishments do not provide paid leave or such relaxation to their workers. As a result, many voters are deprived of exercising their right to vote, which is extremely harmful to democracy.
• As per the orders issued by the State Election Commission through the referenced letters, general elections of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, as mentioned in Annexure-1, will be held on 02/12/2025. To ensure that all voters are able to properly exercise their voting rights in this election, and to ensure the same in districts bordering the State of Maharashtra where elections are being held as per Annexure-1, the following orders are issued:
• Workers/officers/employees who are voters in the polling area where the election is being held shall be granted a paid holiday on the day of voting, even if they are working outside the area where the election is being held.
