Industry Specific ComplianceThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on November 28, 2025, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Rural Co-operative Banks – Credit Information Reporting) Directions, 2025.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The Direction mandates that all regulated credit institutions, including banks (commercial, rural, cooperative) and NBFCs, become members of all registered credit information companies (CICs) and report borrower credit data in a uniform format (UCRF) across consumer, commercial and micro-finance segments.

• It requires frequent, standardized submission of historical and current credit data (typically fortnightly) and institutes a “Data Quality Index” (DQI) for measuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of reporting.

• Consumer rights are strengthened by providing one free full credit report annually and requiring correction/rectification of credit data within prescribed timelines, with compensation in cases of delay.

• The framework also imposes strict controls on sharing of credit information—including due diligence on specified users and consent-based disclosures—as well as strong governance, audit and supervisory oversight for CICs and credit institutions.
