The Ministry of Coal on November 27, 2025, issued the notification regarding the National Coal Index with Base year 2017-18 (provisional) for the month of October 2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The provisional National Coal Index (NCI) for October 2025 (base year 2017–18) has been released, compiled as per the approved methodology.
• The overall Indian Coal Index rose from 124.68 (Sept 2025) to 132.79 (Oct 2025), showing an increase across most coal categories.
• Both non-coking and coking coal indices increased, with notable rises in non-coking top grade (134.47 → 144.54) and coking top grade (123.69 → 136.90).
• Representative Prices (Rs/ton) for most grades increased in October 2025, with G1 rising significantly from ₹8,216 to ₹11,936, while some lower grades (e.g., G15, G17) saw slight declines.
• Historical NCI and representative price data are provided in Annexure Table A and Table B, with all data marked provisional due to provisional import data.
