Industry Specific ComplianceThe Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on November 28, 2025, notified regarding the enforcement action against the use of Industrial Dye Auramine in Food Products, such as Roasted Chana and other products.

The following has been stated namely: -

• It has issued an order addressing reports of illegal use of a banned industrial dye (Auramine O) in roasted chana — a practice found to pose serious health risks, including carcinogenicity. 

• The order instructs all concerned authorities and agencies to conduct stringent inspections and testing of roasted chana and similar products in markets, and to seize and remove adulterated batches from sale. 

• It urges consumers to avoid chana or snacks with unusually bright/yellow coating or chemical smell, and to buy only from licensed, reputable brands with a clear batch code and FSSAI license number.
