The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on November 28, 2025, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Regional Rural Banks - Governance) Directions 2025.
The following has been stated: -
•The RBI (Regional Rural Banks – Governance) Directions, 2025 set comprehensive norms for governance, appointments, and board functioning in RRBs.
•They define the eligibility, selection, tenure, and remuneration of Chairmen, with oversight by Sponsor Banks and NABARD.
•The Directions prescribe clear roles and conduct for Directors, detailed board meeting procedures and agenda, and require formation of key committees like the Audit Committee of the Board for independent oversight.
•They emphasize accountability, transparency, and adherence to statutory and prudential norms.
•These directions shall come into effect from November 28, 2025.
