The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on November 28, 2025, issued the notification regarding the Revision to implementation date of new chargebacks reason codes and clarification on good faith TAT reduction.
The following has been stated namely: -
• NPCI circular 005 introduced new reason codes for NRCS and issued guidelines for raising/responding to chargebacks, originally effective from December 01, 2025.
• Based on ecosystem feedback seeking more time, the implementation date of circular 005 is revised to January 05, 2026.
• Despite the extension, the following “Other Specify” reason codes will be removed from NRCS effective December 01, 2025: 3014, 3022, 4010, 1007, and 2007.
• The Good Faith Turnaround Time (TAT) has been reduced to 90 days, counted from the expiry of the dispute TAT.
• Any Good Faith dispute raised after the defined TAT will be system-rejected with NRCS reject reason code 3207, “The TAT for the dispute cycle/adjustment you are trying to raise has expired.”
