The Government of Madhya Pradesh on October 10, 2025, issued the draft of amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Motoryan Karadhan Adhiniyam, 1991.
The following has been amended, namely: -
• The amendment revises the motor vehicle tax schedule by replacing the term “city routes” with “urban routes” and expanding applicability to notified suburban areas.
• The tax structure for stage carriage vehicles has been modified, including revised monthly rates of ₹200 per seat for routes up to 100 km, with an additional ₹12 per seat for every extra 10 km or part thereof, and certain earlier sub-items (including sub-item 4) have been removed.
• The amendment also updates the tax calculation method by defining total seating capacity to include standing and sleeper capacity, while excluding the driver seat for tax purposes.
• Additionally, in the Second Schedule, the tax rates for goods vehicles have been revised based on gross vehicle weight, with new slabs prescribing 5–9% of the standard vehicle price, depending on whether it is a chassis or fully-built model.
