The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E), on December 02, 2025, notified regarding the Caste discrimination in higher education institutions.
• The institute implements active welfare measures to protect all students from harassment, and counselors/psychologists/doctors are employed to periodically counsel students. The institute also has an SC / ST cell to address student issues . Furthermore , the institute's own departments/wardens/mentors are actively involved in helping students address a variety of concerns, including academic , personal , and emotional ones . The institute conducts regular counseling sessions through a sensitization program for the student community and has also implemented online registration for complaints/suggestions. In addition , motivational lectures/talks , meditation and yoga sessions , sports meets , and cultural meets are periodically organized to foster a healthy student environment.
• The NITSER Council has also advised the institutes to join hands in mitigating the problems of the students and taking care of their emotional health during their stay on campus and help them stay happy , positive and have a better vision.
• The University Grants Commission (UGC ) has notified the UGC ( Promotion of Equality in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations , 2012 to implement legal provisions and policies to prevent discrimination on the basis of caste , creed , religion , language , ethnicity , sex , disability.
• The UGC has taken several steps to prevent caste-based discrimination in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) . The UGC has issued several instructions and guidelines to HEIs to address complaints of discrimination . These include the establishment of an Equal Opportunity Cell , an SC / ST Grievance Redressal Committee , and dedicated liaison officers to handle matters involving SC / ST students and staff.
