The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD), on November 28, 2025, issued the Legal Metrology (General) Sixth Amendment Rules, 2025, to further amend the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011.
The following amendment has been stated namely:-
• In the Eighth Schedule, after PART XII, the following PART shall be inserted, namely: — PART XIII, EVIDENTIAL BREATH ANALYSER, Part 1.
• This specification applies to evidential breath analysers (hereinafter referred to as the breath analysers) that are quantitative instruments, which provide a measurement result of alcohol concentration in exhaled human breath and are used for the purpose of establishing compliance, for fighting against alcohol abuse and for advancement of public safety.
• These instruments are ―evidential‖ and are the principal means by which a definitive breath alcohol measurement is obtained.
