The Government of Andhra Pradesh, on December 04, 2025, issued orders declaring the official General Holidays and Optional Holidays for all State Government offices for the calendar year 2026. The Government directed that all holidays listed in Annexure-I shall be observed as General Holidays, excluding those that fall on Sundays or Second Saturdays, which are separately listed in Annexure-I(A). Optional Holidays listed in Annexure-II—except those falling on Sundays/Second Saturdays in Annexure-II(A)—may be availed up to a limit of five days in 2026, with prior written approval.
The notification clarifies that General Holidays do not automatically apply to industrial establishments, public sector undertakings, Public Works Department workmen, or educational institutions; respective departments will issue separate instructions for these entities. The Government further instructed that any festival whose date depends on the sighting of the moon—such as Ramzan, Bakrid, Moharrum, or Eid Milad-un-Nabi—or any Hindu festival whose date changes, shall be observed as announced through electronic or print media, without waiting for a formal government order.
Separately, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the Government notified holidays to be observed as Public Holidays under the N.I. Act for 2026, via a distinct notification. These apply to banks and financial institutions governed under the Act and are listed separately as mandated.
