The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW) on December 3, 2025, issued a notification prescribing quality specifications for Phospho Gypsum manufactured in India. These standards have been notified under clause 20A of the Fertiliser (Inorganic, Organic or Mixed) Control Order, 1985.
The notification sets out chemical composition requirements, including limits on moisture (max 15%), sodium (max 0.75%), fluoride (max 1%), and mandates minimum thresholds for sulphur (min 13%) and calcium sulphate dihydrate (min 70% on dry basis). It also includes strict caps on heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, chromium, nickel, arsenic, and mercury to ensure safe agricultural use.
Additionally, the order specifies particle size standards, requiring the material to pass through a 2 mm IS sieve, with at least 50% passing through a 0.25 mm (60 mesh) sieve. These specifications will remain valid for three years from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
