The Government of Madhya Pradesh, on December 01, 2025, issued the Madhya Pradesh Municipal (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to further amend the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Act, 1961.
The following amendment has been stated namely:-
• In section 19, sub-section (1), in place of clause (a), the following clause should be inserted, namely: - "(a) Chairperson elected by direct election from the municipal area;",
• In section 20, sub-section (2), in clause (b), for sub-clause (iii), the following sub-clause shall be substituted, namely:- "(iii) in the case of election of the Chairperson, by any voter of the municipal area;";
• In section 20, sub-section (3), for clause (i), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:- "(i) it is not presented within thirty days from the date on which the result of such election or nomination is notified in the Official Gazette, and.".
• In section 32, before the word "Councillors", wherever they occur, the words "Chairperson and" shall be inserted.
