The Government of Karnataka on December 02, 2025, notified regarding the implementation of the Karnataka Non-Major Ports Iron Ore Handling Policy – 2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Karnataka Government has officially lifted the earlier ban on iron ore exports from 10 non-major ports and approved the implementation of the Karnataka Non-Major Ports Iron Ore Handling Policy 2025, along with a detailed Standard Operating Procedure.
• The policy governs export, import, storage, and trade of iron ore through designated non-major ports under the Karnataka Maritime Board, requiring mandatory registration, permits, RFID tracking, and compliance with mining and export laws.
• Exporters shall obtain a one-time registration with the Department of Mines & Geology, secure land allotment at ports, furnish financial guarantees (including Minimum Guarantee Throughput deposits), and comply with wharfage and licensing conditions.
• Strict environmental, safety, labour, infrastructure, and vehicle compliance requirements are mandated, including dust control, fencing, waste disposal rules, and CCTV/drone-based monitoring.
• The policy prioritizes lawful mining, transparency, port-led industrial growth, employment generation, and international trade while preventing illegal transport/export of minerals.
