The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on December 08, 2025, issued recommendations on Terms and Conditions for the Assignment of Spectrum for Certain Satellite-Based Commercial Communication Services.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It responds to a back-reference from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) regarding spectrum assignment for certain satellite-based commercial communication services.
• The recommendation clarifies the terms, conditions, and regulatory framework under which such satellite-based services can be authorized, ensuring alignment with the Telecommunication Act, 2023.
• TRAI’s response incorporates technical, licensing, and usage-based safeguards to regulate spectrum allocation, aiming to maintain orderly growth and fair access across stakeholders in the satellite communications domain.
• These steps reaffirm TRAI’s role in balancing service expansion with regulatory oversight, thereby facilitating innovation while protecting broader public interest and sectoral equity.
