The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on December 08, 2025, issued a communication to all Principals and Heads of CBSE-affiliated schools regarding the conduct of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Public Examinations scheduled for April/May 2026. NIOS, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education, conducts biannual public examinations for Secondary, Senior Secondary, and Vocational courses across India.
CBSE noted that NIOS relies on the infrastructure and support of CBSE-affiliated schools each year to ensure the smooth administration of its large-scale examinations, especially considering its mandate to serve diverse and disadvantaged learner groups. For the upcoming April/May 2026 examination cycle, CBSE has requested affiliated schools to extend cooperation by volunteering as examination centres.
Schools willing to host NIOS Public Examinations must provide consent and register through the portal between December 1–31, 2025. The norms for establishing an exam centre are available on the NIOS website. CBSE emphasized that such participation significantly contributes to facilitating educational access for NIOS learners.
