The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on December 08, 2025, notified the establishment of several new Indian Standards under Rule 15(1) of the BIS Rules, 2018. These newly established standards pertain to lifts, wind energy systems, and reliability modelling for electrical and electronic components.
The schedule includes four newly established standards:
• IS 17900 (Part 10): 2025, relating to replacement of existing passenger and goods lifts in buildings;
• IS/IEC TS 61400-28: 2025, covering life-cycle management and life extension of wind power assets;
• IS/IEC 61703: 2016, on mathematical expressions for reliability, availability, and maintainability; and
• IS/IEC 61709: 2017, prescribing reference conditions for failure rates and stress models for electrical components.
Where applicable, older standards are set to be withdrawn following a transition period. Notably, IS 17386:2020 will remain concurrently in force until 05 June 2026 before being replaced by IS 17900 (Part 10):2025, while IS 7354 (Part 3):2011 has been marked for withdrawal as part of the update to reliability standards.
These updates support modernization and harmonization of Indian Standards with global technological and safety frameworks.
