The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on December 08, 2025, notified the establishment of a revised Indian Standard, IS/ISO 21001:2025, titled Educational Organizations — Management Systems for Educational Organizations — Requirements with Guidance for Use. This standard serves as the first revision of the earlier IS/ISO 21001:2018.
The revised standard, established on 05 December 2025, updates the management system requirements applicable to educational organizations to improve governance, learner satisfaction, and institutional effectiveness. It aligns Indian Standards with the latest international ISO updates, ensuring consistency with global best practices in educational quality management.
The previous version, IS/ISO 21001:2018, will remain concurrently in force until 05 June 2026, after which it will be withdrawn. This transition period enables educational institutions and certification bodies to migrate smoothly to the revised framework.
