The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 11, 2025, notified the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Credit Risk Management) – Amendment Directions, 2025, further to amend the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Credit Risk Management) Directions, 2025.
The following has been stated: -
•The RBI has issued Amendment Directions modifying rules on maintaining CC, current, and OD accounts to enhance credit discipline and monitoring.
•A new Chapter XIA replaces the earlier chapter, detailing the treatment of these accounts based on banking system exposure.
•Banks may freely open current/OD accounts for customers with exposure below ₹10 crore; stricter eligibility applies when exposure is ₹10 crore or more.
•Collection accounts are permitted with mandatory fund transfer to a designated account within two working days, with limited debit permissions.
